Teaching for GD Writing LKS2

Cost: Free to members of BEST Trust otherwise £75 per session

Target Group: Class Teachers, English Lead Teachers from LKS2

Course leader: Dawn Robertson

In this engaging and lively course Dawn Robertson,
English Consultant, will demonstrate how to assess pupils’ writing accurately and then use a wide variety of different texts and activities to ensure that pupils are challenged and stimulated to reach Greater Depth.
Underpinning the training will be an in-depth study of the writing expectations for Year 3 and Year 4 pupils with a close analysis of the material in the Moderator’s Toolkit to support accurate assessment of Greater Depth pupils. Time will be spent examining the end of KS1 writing exemplification materials, which will ensure that teachers feel really confident about the elements that need to be addressed to gain Greater Depth in lower KS2 and ensure progress. The aim of this first session, is to have consistency when assessing writing and a clear understanding about what the child has achieved and where to take them next.
Dawn will share the key elements that pupils will need to be taught and the breadth of experiences they should be given, in order to achieve their full potential as confident writers and gain Greater Depth, if appropriate. Quality texts and film clips will be used and teachers will be shown a wide variety of writing that pupils have produced in response to them.
During the training, a number of strategies and resources will be used that can be taken immediately back into the classroom to stimulate and invigorate teaching and learning. Resource materials, to support this, will be included as part of the training session and sent to the teachers after they have attended the session.
