Target Group : Year 1 teachers and teaching assistants

Maximum number of places: 24

Priority in respect of the initial allocation will be given to teachers who are new to Year 1 teaching and the administration of the Phonics Check.

Course Objectives

  • Focus upon non-negotiables of effective phonics teaching, regardless of the phonics programme.
  • Using a phonics programme loyally.
  • Teaching and learning approaches to phonics.
  • Assessment and tracking of pupils’ progress in phonics (including identifying ‘borderline’ children and planning for intervention strategies).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Attendees are asked to arrive at the school by 9.15am to enable a prompt start to the session. Limited car parking is available on site with additional on-road parking opposite to the school.

Professional ID badges should be presented on arrival for the training.

Target Group(s): All Early Years Foundation Stage teachers and practitioners

Course Objectives:

  • To develop an environment that enables young children to initiate their own learning
  • To understand the importance of the role of the adult in supporting child-initiated learning.
  • To understand how to plan for quality and challenging learning opportunities that build on children’s interests.

Course Content:

Attendance at both sessions is required with activities to carry out between the sessions.

There will be the opportunity to observe child-led learning in a reception class. The session will support practitioners in developing child-initiated play opportunities and how these can be used to plan challenging learning experiences for children across all areas of learning.

Target Group(s): All Early Years Foundation Stage teachers and practitioners

  • To develop an early years environment that provides opportunities for challenges in children’s learning.
  • To reflect on challenges for literacy and mathematics in current provision and practices.
  • To understand the importance of effective processes of observation, assessment and planning in ensuring challenges meet children’s learning needs.

Attendance at both sessions is required with activities to carry out between the sessions.

There will be the opportunity to visit a reception class during the sessions and observe their use of challenges in provision. The sessions will reflect on current practices, how children are provided with opportunities that challenge their learning in literacy and mathematics and how to measure impact on progress and outcomes.
