Course Leaders: Zoe Toone and Karen Hogg
Zoe Toone is an experienced HLTA who is an accredited Team Teach trainer and rebound therapist. She works with Key Stage 1 pupils who have autism, including those working pre-National Curriculum.
Karen Hogg is an HLTA at Millwood managing sensory processing. She has many years of experience working with very complex learning needs.
SESSION 1: What does sensory processing mean?
An introduction into sensory processing. Most people are surprised to find out that we actually have eight sensory systems rather than five. Learn more about these eight systems in more detail. Visual/ Auditory/ Tactile/ Olfactory/ Gustatory/ Vestibular/ Proprioception/ Interoception. How it effects leaners, how it might feel, what it looks like in the classroom.
SESSION 2: Ready to Learn
Building on from module 1 you will learn how to use your knowledge to develop sensory diets in the classroom. You will take on the task of assessing an individual’s needs and transpose this to a working sensory diet. Equipment and activities will also be discussed.
